After more than two decades of conflict, the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo continues to be a war zone where insecurity has ravaged the entire region. As a result of wars, vulnerable young girls and women live in insecurity where sexual violence is more severe. Thus, sexual violence affects young Congolese girls and women physically and psychologically and destabilizes the entire Congolese community. Congolese American Women for Peace, Justice and Prosperity strongly believes that peace is a basic human right, especially for vulnerable girls and women. Young Congolese girls and women deserve to live in peace.
When a human life is threatened due to wars which creates insecurity out of no fault of civilians, young girls and women are the most vulnerable especially when rape is used as a weapon of war. Justice is the starting point to peace and security. All Congolese young girls and women who have been raped deserve justice, as rape is a criminal act against humanity. Congolese American Women for Peace, Justice and Prosperity believes that an International Criminal Court that is neutral and impartial is true Justice that all victims of sexual violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo deserve. Impunity is not an option.
As one deserves to live in peace, one deserves to rebuild life at her fullest potentials without any fear. Congolese American Women for Peace, Justice and Prosperity envision to support young Girls and women victims of sexual violence to rebuild their lives.
